RELATIONS BETWEEN RUSSIA AND ASIA WITNESS PROGRESSIVE DEVELOPMENT

Moscow, Dec 14th, 2007 (Voice of Russia) --Unfortunately, in terms of international relations the outgoing year witnessed a continuation of local strife and armed conflicts across the globe, including the US aggression against sovereign states. Reports of gang raids, terrorist acts, killings, explosions, arsons and abduction for ransom came in daily. Measures against the new threats and challenges require coordinated effort from the whole of civilized community.

The year 2007 will go down in history as a time during which many nations grew wiser and developed a better understanding of the nature of contemporary world with the problems it is facing and approaches to resolve them. And Russia has come to enjoy a greater role in world affairs, mostly due to internal consolidation and the ability to be consistent in defending its legitimate interests and getting the right vision of current trends in contemporary global development.

Russia?s relations with countries of Asia and the Pacific saw a progressive development in the outgoing year. In the first place, it continued to foster strategic partnership and alliance with China and India, the world?s most populated countries which along with Russia have taken the lead in economic development in the past few years. Moscow, Beijing and Delhi hold identical positions on key international issues. They never interfere in the domestic affairs of other countries, never force on them their own vision of moral and spiritual values and see the world as multi-polar, fair, democratic and rational. All are positive that no country or group of countries can practice a monopolistic approach or act in defiance of the UN Charter. Russia, China and India are pursuing a peaceful agenda in global politics. The outgoing year saw growing trade and economic ties of Russia with China and India.

In relations with China a major benchmark in building up bilateral contracts was the Year of Russia in China in 2006 and the Year of China in Russia in 2007. Similar Years will be held between Russia and India.

And in the outgoing year Russia continued to cement productive relations with other Asian nations ? Vietnam, Mongolia, North and South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
