Russian Pacifists Decorate Cuban President

(Jorge Petinaud Martinez) --- Moscow, Oct 27 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Fidel Castro is a
zealous guardian of his people's freedom, so he deserves the
Peacemakers' Star of Ruby, the leader of that Russian organization said
here on Friday.
Yuri Safronov, secretary general of the World Charitable Alliance of
Peacemakers, granted the maximum decoration of that organization to
Cuban Ambassador to Russia Jorge Marti, at a ceremony held in the
island's embassy in Moscow.
The Cuban head of State has devoted his life to his country's welfare
and security, and to peace and development in the American continent
and in other countries of the world, said the pacifist in his speech.
Safronov noted that after many years of resistance leading his people,
Fidel Castro continues to influence international politics brilliantly,
while Cuba maintains its sovereignty and the right to a model based on
social justice.
When thanking prominent scientists, artists, entrepreneurs and Latin
American ambassadors for attending the ceremony, Marti noted the small
Caribbean island's resistance against Washington's
nearly-half-a-century blockade.
Under those circumstances, unique social programs are implemented for
everyone's benefit, regardless their gender, race or beliefs, only 5.3
children die per every 1,000 live births, he added.
The ambassador recalled that there are no abandoned children in Cuba
and all children are educated, including those who live in remote
mountainous areas.
Cubans' life expectancy is 78 years, the diplomat concluded.
During the ceremony, Ambassadors Sergio Sanchez (Bolivia) and Alexis
Navarro (Venezuela) were decorated with the Peacemakers' Order.
Other Russian institutions and a group of media personalities also
received the order.
